Wellness & Vaccinations

At Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital, we truly believe that the most important thing you can do for your animal companion is to make a commitment to wellness care. When you bring your pet in once or twice a year for a checkup, our veterinarians are able to gather a complete and accurate profile of his or her health.

We can then use that information to monitor any changes that may occur over time, giving us a much better chance of catching potential problems before they develop further. In short, wellness care can help your pet live longer and vastly improve his or quality of life.

Noah’s Westside offers comprehensive wellness care and preventative medicine services that are designed to assist our patients through every stage of life. Puppies and kittens have different needs than senior pets, and the health care needs of adult companion animals may change over the years. Our wellness care services are designed to address these changing needs and give your pet the best chance at enjoying a long, happy and healthy life.

Wellness visits at Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital include everything from a thorough “nose to tail” physical exam to administering appropriate vaccines to comprehensive parasite prevention, as well as nutritional advice, weight management and basic behavioral counseling. We’ll use this time to ask you a series of questions about your pet’s lifestyle at home so that we can develop a more personalized plan to help address his or her specific needs.

Our wellness care also includes a customized vaccination schedule. Without the proper vaccines, companion animals are at a much greater risk of developing a variety of serious, sometimes life threatening diseases. Yet, not every vaccination is necessary for every pet. Through our detailed health analysis, we’ll gather the information we need to put together a vaccination plan that is perfect for your pet, based on his or her unique lifestyle and risk factors. We want to tailor our approach to ensure that your companion receives exactly the right protection to help keep them happy and healthy.

In addition to managing your pet’s current health status, routine wellness visits also provide our doctors with the opportunity to identify any potential medical concerns so that we can address them right away. In many cases, we are able to prevent or stop the progression of illness and disease early, which can greatly improve the chances of a positive outcome. Early detection of disease is a more effective approach to your pet’s medical care, and it can also save you money over time since it’s always less expensive to deal with an illness in its early stages then it is to treat it once it’s progressed.

At Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital, we strongly recommend the following wellness care protocol for all of our patients:

Complete 12 Body System Examination – One of the most important parts of a wellness visit is the thorough physical exam your pet will receive. This exam will cover all of the most important body systems, both external and internal, to ensure that your companion is healthy and to identify any problems that may exist in a timely manner. Exams are recommended every six months, if possible.

Customized Vaccination Plan – We want to keep our patients safe from the many illnesses and diseases that may threaten their lives, and the best way to do so is through vaccines. We’ll develop a customized vaccination plan that is tailored specifically to your pet so he or she receives precisely the protection needed to keep them healthy.

Preventative Blood Work – Not every medical problem can be easily detected on the surface of the skin. That’s why our comprehensive wellness care includes preventative blood work, which allows us to learn what’s happening inside your pet’s body and identify any potential medical concerns so we can address them right away.

Preventative Dental Care – Healthy gums and clean teeth do more than just prevent bad breath; they can actually improve the length and quality of your pet’s life. Our wellness visits include a dental exam to check for any signs of dental disease. We’ll also offer tips and recommendations for home dental care.

Parasite Prevention – All companion animals are at risk of getting parasites, both external and internal, and these little pests can do everything from causing your pet discomfort to shortening their life. What’s more, many parasites can spread from animals to the humans in your home. We’ll develop a personalized parasite prevention plan that will keep both your four-legged and your two-legged family members safe.

Nutrition – Diet and exercise play an important role in helping your pet enjoy a lifetime of good health. Our nutritional counseling can help ensure that your pet’s dietary needs are being properly met and that he or she remains active to help maintain a healthy weight.

Regular Grooming – Keeping your pet healthy on the outside is equally as important as wellness on the inside. Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital recommends regular grooming and bathing as part of a comprehensive wellness care approach.

Finally, routine wellness visits provide our doctors and care team members the opportunity to get to know you and your pet on a more personal level. We want to develop a lifelong relationship with you and to foster a strong bond with your cherished companion, because we believe that this is the foundation for providing the best possible veterinary care throughout your pet’s entire life.

Diagnostics

Because our pets cannot speak to let us know when they’re not feeling well, it’s up to us to be able to recognize the signs that something may be wrong and take the appropriate measures to address the problem in a timely manner. What’s more, many companion animals have a high tolerance for pain, so identifying a potential concern or its source is not always easy. At Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital, we utilize a broad range of veterinary diagnostic services that allow us to look below the surface of the skin to learn what’s happening inside your pet’s body so we can reach a fast and accurate diagnosis and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Our comprehensive list of diagnostic services includes everything from routine lab work such as blood and urinalysis to advanced imaging services like x-rays and ultrasound. Each of these tools arm our doctors with the ability to quickly and accurately identify, diagnose and treat a wide variety of illnesses, diseases and injuries. With many medical conditions, time is of the essence. The ability to get to the bottom of the problem quickly is critical to achieving a positive outcome. Our facility features an in-house laboratory, aiding in the fast and accurate retrieval of test results.

The diagnostic services provided at Noah’s Westside include but are not limited to:

  • Blood Work

  • Urinalysis

  • Fecal Testing

  • Parasite Testing

  • Testing for Infectious Disease

  • Allergy Screening

  • Digital Radiology (X-ray)

  • Dental X-ray

  • Ultrasound Imaging

On rare occasions, our experienced doctors may feel that more extensive or specialized testing is required for optimum patient care. In situations such as this, we rely on a number of qualified outside laboratories, with whom we have developed strong working relationships. We feel this allows us to consistently offer our patients the very best care available.

Rest assured that whatever may be ailing your companion, we’re well equipped and fully prepared to get to the bottom of it so we can get your pet back on the path to good health again as soon as possible.

Dentistry

Clean teeth and healthy gums provide your pet with a much better chance of enjoying a long, healthy life. Dental disease is one of the most commonly diagnosed problems in adult dogs and cats, and if not properly treated, it can affect your pet’s entire body and even shorten the length of his or her life. The good news is you can protect your companion from this and other dangerous oral health problems by making a commitment to dental care, both professionally and at home.

Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital offers all of the pet dentistry services your furry family member needs to enjoy a lifetime of good oral health, from preventative dental care to the treatment of existing oral conditions as well as advice for home dental health care. Our team of highly skilled, experienced veterinary professionals is well versed in all aspects of pet dentistry and we’re prepared to work with you, every step of the way, to help your companion achieve a clean, healthy mouth.

Our preventative dental care services include complete dental examinations to check your pet’s teeth and gums for any signs of dental disease. We’ll then use cutting edge ultrasonic instruments to clean your companion’s teeth, removing any plaque and tartar and polishing them to a lovely shine. We may also recommend dental x-rays should we feel that they may be needed to further examine the teeth and oral structures for any signs of dental problems.

Even if you’ve never focused on pet dentistry, it’s never too late! Let us get your pet on the path to a healthy mouth starting today!

Some of the common signs and symptoms that a dental problem may exist include:

  • Bad Breath

  • Discolored Teeth

  • Broken, Cracked or Loose Teeth

  • Red, Swollen or Bleeding gums

  • Difficulty Chewing and/or Reluctance to Play with Chew Toys

If you’ve noticed that your pet has been exhibiting one or more of these signs, it’s time for a dental exam. The sooner we can identify the cause of your pet’s dental problems, the sooner we can get it corrected and the better the outcome for your pet.

It’s important to point out that all dental procedures require that the patient be anesthetized, both for their safety and ours. We are committed to the safety and comfort of our patients, and take every precaution necessary to ensure their well-being at all times while in our care. Dental patients receive pre-anesthetic blood work, IV catheter placement with fluids, and cardiopulmonary monitoring throughout the procedure. Additionally, we may also utilize local anesthetic blocks and provide your pet with a prescription for pain medication to help keep them comfortable at home, following the procedure.

Lastly, but certainly not least, we want to incorporate you, as the responsible and caring pet parent, into the ongoing care of your pet’s dental health. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff will work with you to provide guidance and tips on home dental care techniques that you can use in between vet visits, as well as advice and recommendations on various products you can try that will help keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy and clean. Together we’ll work hard to keep your pet smiling for many years to come!

Surgery

Your pet is more than just an animal – he or she is a part of your family. At Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital, we know that bringing a member of the family in for surgery – whether two-legged or four-legged – can be a challenging, sometimes stressful time for you both. We want to set your mind at ease and will work hard to make your pet’s surgery as stress-free an experience as possible. Whatever your pet’s surgical needs, you can feel confident that they’ll be in excellent hands with our team!

Our veterinarians are highly skilled and experienced in performing a broad range of surgeries, from routine spays and neuters to complex orthopedic procedures. We use the most modern equipment and up to date surgical techniques to ensure the best possible outcome for our patients. Regardless of the type of surgery being performed, we place the safety and comfort of our patients as our top priority at all times.

Prior to undergoing surgery, your pet will receive a thorough physical examination, including a number of diagnostic tests, which will help us to determine whether he or she is healthy enough to proceed. If everything goes well, we’ll then schedule your pet’s procedure and develop a customized pain management plan that is tailored to your companion’s specific needs.  This will ensure that he or she remains as comfortable as possible throughout the surgical process, with the least amount of risk.

We use only the best available anesthetic products, which have been expertly chosen because of their safety and effectiveness. Pain medication will be carefully administered by our well trained veterinary technicians, who will also be available to assist with surgery and monitor your pet’s vital signs throughout the procedure. Our modern equipment allows us to keep a close eye on such things as heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation and EKG to ensure your pet’s well-being at all times while in our care.

After surgery, we will carefully relocate your pet to our comfortable, quiet recovery area where we will continue to monitor them as they come out of anesthesia. One of our friendly staff members will reach out to you to let you know how everything went and schedule a time for you to come pick up your pet. When you arrive, we’ll take some time to explain our post-operative care instructions, including an appropriate pain management plan that will help your pet recover comfortably.

Whatever your pet’s surgical needs, you can feel confident that the caring, experienced team at Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital will deliver the quality care needed to get your pet fixed up and back on his or her feet again as soon as possible.

Nutrition & Weight Management

Keeping up with your pet’s nutrition is an important part of his or her overall care. Not every pet food is created equal, and each pet’s needs are unique. What’s more, companion animals that are even just a few pounds overweight can be at a greater risk of developing a number of serious, sometimes life threatening medical conditions. Noah’s Westside Animal Hospital offers professional nutritional counseling and weight management services to ensure that your companion is provided with the right diet to support his or her specific needs, and an exercise plan that will help your pet achieve and maintain his or her ideal weight.

We’ll start by conducting a detailed nutritional analysis of your pet to determine his or her specific needs. We’ll ask you questions about your companion’s lifestyle and consider a variety of factors, such as age, breed and overall health. Then, we’ll use the information we gather to develop a unique nutritional plan that will support your pet’s optimum health. If your companion suffers from an existing medical problem, we may recommend a prescription diet to help manage his or her ongoing health.

We’ll also work closely with you to ensure that your four-legged friend is receiving the right amount of exercise. Physical activity should be an important part of every companion animal’s daily routine. Even pets that are older or suffer from medical conditions should remain active to stay as healthy and fit as possible. Our doctors and support team will determine which types of activities would be best suited for your pet to help them shave off any extra pounds and reach a more healthy weight.

You want what’s best for your companion and so do we! We want to help ensure that your pet enjoys as many years as possible by your side. Let us work with you to provide a customized diet and exercise plan that will bring out the very best in your furry family member!
